About

I’ve never been really good at social media or keeping up with people, but I have become pretty consistent at journaling recently so I’m hoping this blog will bridge that gap.

The title is derived from a quote by C.S. Lewis found in his book Mere Christianity. “We have to take reality as it comes to us: there is no good jabbering about what it ought to be like or what we should have expected it to be like.” I LOVE this. It is so true. If we let go of our expectations for life and just take it a day at a time, we will be much happier. This is how I try to live my life; take every experience as it comes to me and remain humble through the expected and the unexpected.

Here’s my story in a nutshell. I was born in College Station, TX when my dad was in school at Texas A&M. He graduated a month after I was born (WHOOP!) so I’ve been an Aggie since birth. I grew up mainly in Friona, TX and I’m incredibly grateful for my upbringing in that tiny West Texas town. As flat, dry, and windy as it is, there is still so much beauty: in the big West Texas sky and in the hearts of the people that live under it.

In 2012, I moved back down to Aggieland to pursue my degree. There, I met my wonderful husband and best friend. We were married in December of 2014. The following August I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology (WHOOP!). My field may not be the easiest to find a job in, but I love every bit of it. My primary interest is osteology, the study of bones. It is amazing to see how the skeleton is truly a living organ and that the things we do in our daily lives play an integral role in shaping and strengthening our bones. Studying humans gave me a special look into the most unique of God’s creations. Every process, system, organ, and cell are all testaments of His creative power. It’s truly awe-inspiring. I was also blessed to be able to associate with people of many faiths and backgrounds in my degree. They brought ideas to the table that were completely novel to me and I am more open-minded and accepting because of them.

I am a Christian with great faith in my God and my Savior. I was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and our doctrine brings me the greatest hope, joy, and peace that I can achieve in this life. In 2015, I began consulting on a book about surviving through suffering. I learned so much as I worked on that book and my faith has been strengthened.

That has been my life for the last 22 years. Stay tuned to learn more about the Gardners’ reality as it comes!
